Project Brief

Britain’s leading chain of specialist outdoor and travel stores, The Outdoor Group which includes the Millets brand, first contracted John Anthony Signs in 2000 when it sought to re-style its Freespirit outlets.

A retailer of surf, skate and snowboard clothing, footwear and equipment, goods are aimed at young, active and fashion conscious buyers.

John Anthony Signs developed a unique shop fascia to reflect the aspirations of Freespirit customers in its 30 stores throughout the UK.

This successful partnership led to the company commissioning John Anthony Signs to supply signage for over 100 nationwide stores for its sister company Blacks.

John Anthony Signs worked with Blacks on the entire re-styling programme for its stores, researching and developing, designing, supplying and installing a wide range of external shop fascias and internal signs for the company’s high street stores.

Blacks took a bold step for further expansion and acquired sites out of town in retail parks. These stores were massive in comparison to their usual high street location.

John Anthony Signs worked closely with the Blacks’ team and their designers, producing a variety of signs and graphics that matched and contributed to the success of their venture.
